Slow-Cooker Spiced Apple Butter

555 min · 32 tablespoons (about 2 pints)

Ingredients

□ 3 lb tart apples, such as Granny Smith, peeled, cored, and sliced

□ 3 lb sweet apples, such as Fuji or Honeycrisp, peeled, cored, and sliced

□ 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

□

□ 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

□ 2 tsp ground cinnamon

□ 1/4 tsp ground cloves

□ 1/4 tsp kosher salt

Directions

1. Prep tart and sweet apples. Stir with brown sugar, cider, lemon, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a slow cooker.

2. Cover and cook on low 6 to 7 hours, until every apple piece crushes easily against the cooker wall.

3. Turn off heat and blend directly in the cooker until the apples are completely smooth.

4. Cook uncovered on high 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring often, until it mounds on a chilled plate and a trail holds.

5. Cool, transfer to clean containers, and refrigerate up to 2 weeks. Serve on toast, yogurt, or oatmeal.

Cook’s note: Reduce with the lid off and scrape the cooker well each time you stir to avoid scorching.
