Cinnamon-Vanilla French Toast

26 min · 4 servings

Ingredients

□

□ 4 large eggs

□ 1 cup whole milk

□ 1 tsp vanilla extract

□ 1 tsp ground cinnamon

□ Pinch of kosher salt

□ 3 tbsp unsalted butter, divided

□ 1/2 cup maple syrup, warmed

□ Fresh berries and lightly whipped cream, for serving

Directions

1. Set out 8 bread slices and warm a skillet over medium-low. Whisk 4 eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a shallow dish.

2. Soak 2 slices, allowing 20 seconds per side for brioche or 30 seconds for challah. Melt 1 tbsp butter in the skillet.

3. Cook the first batch for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until deeply golden and set in the center.

4. Hold the first batch warm, then repeat with the remaining bread and 2 tbsp butter, cooking each batch until golden.

5. Serve warm with 1/2 cup maple syrup, berries, and whipped cream if desired.

Cook’s note: Use bread that is at least a day old so it absorbs custard without collapsing.
