American Ranch Dressing
40 min · 2 cups
Ingredients
□ 1 cup mayonnaise
□ 1/2 cup cultured buttermilk
□ 1/3 cup sour cream, plus up to 2 tbsp for thickening
□ 1 1/2 tbsp fresh lemon juice, plus up to 1/2 tbsp to taste
□
□
□
□ 1 small garlic clove, finely grated
□ 1/2 tsp onion powder
□ 1/2 tsp kosher salt
□ 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Directions
1. Chop fresh dill, parsley, and chives. Whisk mayonnaise and sour cream smooth, then whisk in 6 tbsp buttermilk; reserve 2 tbsp to thin.
2. Whisk in lemon, garlic, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Fold in fresh herbs, or replace them with 1 tsp each dried dill, parsley, and chives.
3. Adjust to a pourable ribbon, cover, and chill 20 minutes; with dried herbs, rest 30 minutes to hydrate.
4. Taste and brighten with lemon; thin with buttermilk or thicken with sour cream. Serve chilled.
Cook’s note: Choose either the fresh or dried herb branch; do not combine both.
